3 Things you need to do before taking the licensure exams for teachers

One of the noblest and oldest professions in the book is being a teacher. It holds high repute in the community of being a position of respect and credibility. Teachers can be considered as the real unsung heroes of the society for they are the ones who really do all the “dirty” job for this country: building a nation through educating the public, teaching values, sitting down on tedious election, and shaping the generation that will soon be the ones to take over in running the government. Though graduates of education can seek employment in private schools and tutorial centers here in the Philippines and abroad even right after graduation, it is still the ambition of every graduate of a bachelor’s degree in education to have their own license. And one of the requirements of achieving the status of being a true professional teacher is to pass the Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET).

Beside from being officially labeled as a professional, passing the LET would also mean that teachers would be able to do practice in the public schools. It will open various benefits like higher pay (not to compare to what private schools and tutorial centers in the Philippines can offer in general), retirement pension, and GSIS loan. This will also prove that the passer has met the academic and legal bars to teach, boosting their confidence and pride as a teacher. But passing the LET is no easy task and ample preparation is necessary. In the last March 2015 examination, only 12,103 or 27.42% out of 44,144 passed the exam for elementary teachers and 17,904 (33.63%) secondary teachers came up tall out of 56,596 takers. 12,630 of these passers are repeat takers. The exam goes through a lot of revision each year to maintain its quality. If you are one of the aspirants who would be taking the examination this September 24, 2015 you are in luck because here are some advices that can definitely help you before taking the LET exam:

Plan your time wisely
First time taker or not, look on where you are right now. Set a time table on the things that you need to accomplish before taking the exam. Determine if there will be enough time for you to prepare for the coming exam or if you need to pass up and take the next one instead.

Have an honest assessment of your strengths and weaknesses
This is really important to determine which areas you need to focus on to increase your chances of passing the examination. It is also very important that these assessments are realistic and honest. It is advisable to seek proofs that will support you assessment such as your grades in college. Philippines has various tutorial centers that provides aptitude test on areas that are likely to show up in examinations.

Allot time to review
You may not be able to remember everything that has been taught to you in your years of study. Reviewing will allow you to refresh your mind about the lessons that have slipped your mind. Purchasing review materials is also a good move but it is highly advisable to enroll in a review center here in the Philippines.
